With n8n or Make, a small team can hand its repetitive tasks to a tool. In a small team, hours are not lost on big decisions. They are lost copying a form enquiry into a spreadsheet, chasing a prospect who never replied, preparing the same email for the twentieth time. These are fixed-rule tasks, and a fixed-rule task can be handed to an automation tool such as n8n or Make.

The principle in one sentence
An automation is a trigger (“an enquiry arrives”) followed by a series of actions (“record it, notify someone, reply to the client”). The tools move information between your applications, with no copy and paste.
Five automations to start with
1. No enquiry lost
Every form on the site creates a record in your CRM or tracking sheet, with the source and date. No more enquiries forgotten in an inbox.
2. An immediate reply
The client receives a clear acknowledgement within a minute, with what happens next. You get a notification on the channel you actually read: email, Slack or WhatsApp.
3. Follow-ups that no longer depend on your memory
A quote with no reply after three days? A reminder goes out by itself, or a task appears in your list. Follow-up becomes regular instead of random.
4. Documents generated automatically
When an order is confirmed, the invoice or delivery note is created from a template, saved in the right place and sent to the client.
5. The Monday morning report
Every week a summary arrives by itself: enquiries received, pending quotes, sales. You steer with figures, not impressions.
n8n or Make: which to choose
| Criterion | n8n | Make |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Software you can host yourself, or a cloud plan | Online service only |
| Billing | Per workflow execution on cloud, free self-hosted edition | Per credit, each step uses some |
| Learning curve | Needs a bit more technical skill | Very visual, quick to learn |
| Data | Can stay on your server | Goes through Make’s servers |
| Best for | High volumes, custom logic | Starting fast, simple scenarios |
Make offers a free plan with limited credits, useful for testing. n8n can be installed on a small server with no licence fee, but someone then has to maintain it. Prices change: check the official pages.
Key point. Do not automate a fuzzy process. First write down the steps as you do them by hand. If you cannot write them, the tool cannot run them.
Three mistakes to avoid
- Automating everything at once. Start with a single flow, the one that costs you the most time.
- Forgetting error cases. What happens if an application does not respond? A good workflow alerts someone.
- Documenting nothing. In six months, someone will need to understand why this message goes out at that time.
What about WhatsApp?
In West Africa, many sales are closed on WhatsApp. The official WhatsApp Business API lets you send automatic confirmations and reminders, provided you follow Meta’s rules on consent and message templates.
At Aureva Digital, every n8n or Make workflow we deliver is documented, so you stay in control of your tools. See our automation offer, or tell us which task weighs on you most: that is often the one to start with.
In short
- Start with one flow, the one that costs you the most time, and write its steps down before you automate it.
- Choose Make to start fast with simple scenarios, and n8n when volumes grow or when data must stay on your server.
- Plan for errors and document each workflow, so it keeps running when someone else takes over.
